I love making jam. Love it. In fact, when my husband Casey and I got married, we canned 150 jars of jam as wedding favors. Don’t try that at home. It was quite the undertaking to do that many at once.
If you’d like to learn how to make jam, my good friends at Terra Organics are hosting a jam class with Rebecca Staffel of Deluxe Foods this Thursday, September 19 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The cost is only $10. Register online.
Taking a class to learn preservation techniques is actually a really good idea — not only will you learn the process, but you can learn tips and tricks from a pro like Rebecca. Though I have experience making jam, I am very interested to see how her technique may differ from my own.

We are having our first Tacoma Chocolate Fest this October 4 & 5, 2013. Those in the Greater Puget Sound will be tempted with the deliciousness of fine chocolate on Friday and Saturday, October 4 & 5. The event will be held in Tacoma’s Historic Proctor District from 10:00 – 6:00 both days. We have 3 main categories:
“Chocolate 101″ – Will have Regional Chocolatiers that will be talking/teaching to you about the culinary art of fine chocolate, as well as giving you samples and selling you their chocolates.
“Chocolate Challenge” will offer a scavenger-type hunt for gift boxes in participating businesses to be redeemed for chocolate-related prizes.
“Choctail Hour”, hosted by Proctor eateries and beverage establishments, will provide their chocolate specialties for those chocolate lovers.
As a special treat on Saturday October 5, 2013. Held at Knapps Resturant on Proctor we will also have a
“Cupcake Clash” where creative bakers can enter their most chocolaty-delicious, creatively decorated cupcakes for a chance to win prizes and an award. A Silent Auction of cupcakes from select Tacoma bakeries will be held in conjunction with the Cupcake Clash.
